So … here are the BEFORE pictures of our 46 square meters ground floor living space. This is an open plan living space combining the living room, dining & kitchen area.
For some, you may like this original decor but for me, there were definitely no happy vibes here and the dark flooring was not my cup of tea! As this area is going to be where most of the family are likely to be most of the time eating, playing, cooking and sometimes sleeping… we wanted to create a functional light airy space with happy vibes!
So it began…. The first thing on the list was to rip the flooring up…..carpet took 5 minutes but removing the laminate caused a sweat fest, with only the use of a couple of crowbars and our own body weight to bend and pull it off from the hard glue. Not good when a toddler is wandering around trying to whack you over the head with a crowbar ..!
We made the choice of again using a laminate flooring since its easy to keep clean especially when there is a toddler in the house. We chose the High Gloss White Oak bought from Discount Flooring along with a thick 5.5 mm underlay.
Here is the result after a week of fitting the flooring, painting the walls and wallpapering…
We wallpapered the alcoves with Laura Ashley Jossette White Dove Grey Dasmask Wallpaper and painted the walls in two-tone with DULUX Goose Down paint and Timeless Dulux Paint.
This area has been my favourite transformation of the home so far. It was our first endeavour. After ripping the dark flooring up, painting the walls with Dulux, scraping off the wallpaper, changing the light fixtures with Laura Ashley lights and painting the trims in ultra white, matt paint….BAM!!! A light and airy living room is born. Add in the white Ikea furnishings (stools and picture frames), and the transformation is even more dramatic.
